The excellent striped bass fishing on the Kennebec River is not by happenstance. It comes from decades of stewardship. I recently celebrated this amazing fishery with Maine's Commissioner of Marine Resources Pat Keliher, his wife Deirdre, and daughter Kaitlin.
"A great fishery needs healthy habitat and forage. The Kennebec has both in abundance..."
Capt. Dave Pecci 6-27-22
A great fishery needs healthy habitat and forage. The Kennebec has both in abundance thanks to Maine DMR's visionary work. River herring, alewives, American eel, Atlantic herring sand eels, bunker and more make the Kennebec their spring and summer home. When the stripers arrive on their northerly migration they do the same.
This great striped bass fishery supports dozens of guides, tackle shops, restaurants, hotels, B&Bs, and other local businesses. The next time you are fishing or cruising on the Kennebec River think of the folks at the Maine Department of Marine Resources who work diligently to provide us this amazing estuary.
